“He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by
the stream. It does not fear when heat
comes; its leaves are always green. It
has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:8.
Yesterday, I was walking
while on vacation and came upon a row of trees that took my breath away. I immediately thought about this passage of
Scripture as the tree’s bulging roots commanded attention. I have no idea the age of this tree but there
are certainties about the life of this beauty.
It is planted in rich soil that sends the much- needed nutrients to the
trunk and branches. It is getting the
proper amount of rain to quench whatever need it has. Its very presence displays beauty, longevity,
health and growth. It is an evergreen
and will stand tall and full no matter what the weather brings it way.
We are all trees of
faith that pepper our landscape. We have
the same opportunities to plant our lives in the rich soil of fellowship with
God. We have the same available
nourishment from God to drench us in His word to sustain us and help us
grow. Through the orchestration of
circumstances which He allows into our lives we become stronger, mightier and
healthier because of these experiences.
Droughts of pain and suffering might come against us but they have no
power over us because our roots are bound in our faith. The stronger our roots, the greener our
growth and our faith will become evergreens.
Becoming an evergreen in
God’s garden requires that we stand strong and hand over our will to Him. Becoming an evergreen means we trust God and
are confident in His way, His will and His timing. Being an evergreen means we don’t have to
fret when the winds of adversity blow through our branches. It means we continue to bless …to encourage …
and to serve even when we feel drought in our hearts. We stand strong and we are a mighty fortress
because we are planted in Him. No one
has any greater opportunity than another for God does not have favorites. When we make Him our life, anchoring our
faith in Him, we come in for this blessing.
“But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
whose confidence is in him.” Jeremiah 17:7.
