“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” 1 Cor. 13:11-12
Almost 49 years ago I meet a wonderful man on July 8th. He provided the perfect example of the manner in which a Christian man should live. We shared piggy back rides, tickle fights and bike rides. When he brought the ‘claw’ out (his hand distorted in a way that made us squeal) the four little girls would hit the floor running. These were some of the childish ways that are behind me…wonderful memories…wonderful family.
I look at our dad as he is in the final walk of his journey of cancer and all I can see is a weak reflection of the high energy man for whom we have enjoyed all of our lives. I praise God that Jesus came and became Savior so my dad may eternally live. The poor reflection of health that we are witnessing today will be replaced with the fullness of Christ. “When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory.’” 1 Cor. 15:54. “The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.” 1 Cor. 15:42
Sometime in the near future our dad will know fully what he has known in part. He will experience the raising of the imperishable, the spiritual and the strong. He will see fully and experience face to face the One whom he has longed for his entire life.
I know that this man will be giving piggy back rides in Heaven…Beth will be the first in line. Praise God for His gift of eternal life and the promise that we will all be together one day.
