Knock, Knock...Who's There?

“Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD: The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. The LORD called Samuel a third time…The LORD came and stood there, calling as he the other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ Then Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.’” 1 Sam. 3:7

When Samuel was a boy under the ministry of Eli, God called to him three times before Samuel learned God’s voice. Through the clarification of Eli, Samuel realized that it was God who had been calling him.

In reflecting over my life I wonder how many times I have not recognized the voice of God. We busy our lives and cram unimportant details in our days creating noisy distractions. It is no wonder we are all Samuels on any given day. The more we fellowship with our Father in Heaven the more recognizable His voice will become. We will learn His promptings, His urgings and His guidance through the Holy Translator, His Spirit. God wants us to hear Him and understand the message of His words.

Revelation 3:20 tells us “I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” Christ gives us a choice as the verse states.

We may hear His voice but will the door be opened when He knocks?
